WIMS Project: Walk In My Shoes — Strengthen Communication in ED² Part1

My name is Audrey Guilbaud, and I work as a QSE Assistant at ED² Studio, where my responsibilities span three key areas: Quality, Safety and Environment. As part of my role, I was asked to tackle one of the studio’s most significant challenges: improving communication across teams.

During the latest review of ED² Studio’s Occupational Health and Safety Risk Assessment, employees from across the organisation were interviewed to identify key workplace issues. One message emerged consistently: communication remains the studio’s greatest opportunity for improvement. This finding closely aligns with Studio Director Lance Scott’s ambition to make effective communication one of ED²’s defining pillars.

In response, we launched the WIMS Project (Walk In My Shoes), a CSR initiative designed to encourage employees to experience the workplace from another team’s perspective. By gaining first-hand insight into colleagues’ daily responsibilities, constraints and challenges, the programme promotes empathy, active listening and stronger cross-functional collaboration.

The concept was tailored specifically to ED² through a half-day immersive event involving every employee. Each department is represented by two facilitators, who lead a workshop centred on a genuine challenge faced by their team. Participants rotate through every workshop except their own department’s, ensuring they gain a broad understanding of the studio while avoiding duplication. Coordinating the event was a significant logistical undertaking, but the result is a highly engaging and meaningful learning experience. Each session explores issues directly or indirectly linked to communication, from recurring misunderstandings and coordination challenges to everyday sources of stress and friction.

More than simply introducing employees to one another’s roles, the WIMS Project seeks to build mutual understanding, strengthen communication between teams and reduce conflicts arising from miscommunication. By fostering greater collaboration and improving coordination across the studio, the initiative also supports a more efficient organisation, higher employee engagement and, ultimately, a better workplace experience for everyone.
